Our Journey to the UK

When travelling and transporting your dogs overseas, my biggest piece of advice would be, to allow plenty of time. It took us 10 months of planning to return to the U.K. with 5 huskies.

There are so many documents to sort both internal and external. For ourselves it was ensuring we played our part by arranging rabies vaccines, titer tests, vet check up and worming, whilst ensuring all the routine vaccines are kept up to date. The external documents included paperwork from your sponsor, the ministry and the destination you are travelling to. It is probably the case that Saudi systems are a little complex, but I had friends travelling to other destinations including Australia, with as much red tape to fulfill, even having to quarantine their pets, at least we have eradicated that in the UK providing everything ties up perfectly.

Cargo transport is the only option to fly directly to the UK. I know people have driven and flown to Europe, then driven, people have taken many different routes, but for us, with 5 especially, we needed to ensure they all arrived safe and well. The concern of putting them all in crates and shipping them off in the hold of a plane with strangers was upsetting enough for us as a family. The last concern we needed, was for the dogs to end up retained in Saudi Arabia and us to be on the way to Heathrow. We know firsthand that this has happened over and over as we have fostered dogs that have been left, either with a view to rehome or until the pet owner could sort the situation out.

With some level of trepidation , we decided I would fly In November on the same flight as the Huskidz and Martin would final exit and join us in December.

It is highly recommended to use an agent. Although to travel with the dogs in cargo it is a must. There are many agents and people offering good advice and help, Our agent came recommended to us and they were absolutely awesome. They took the pain out of the whole journey and were amazing at reassuring and communicating through the whole process. I couldn’t recommend them enough.

David Alexander and the team at expatlogistics.com were faultless and on Sunday 15th November 2021 the Huskidz left Saudi Arabia, destination …. A new life in England.

It was strange looking out from the airport window knowing the Huskidz were boarding that very plane!
